Blenz's barn on Eller Road

Doug's House in Bloomington

Doug at the time was living in an awful place. [Blenz’s Barn, on top of Buckner’s Cave, at the end of Eller Road southwest of Bloomington, IN. No running water, but a caver's paradise and free rent.] We had all the furniture from the beach house, so we bought a cottage [208 S. Sale St, a 2 bedroom house with a full basement] in Bloomington so Doug would have a decent place to live.

We moved all the furniture from the lake house to Bloomington. We thought at last he would have a nice house to live in. He hated it. [No, I hated the fact that I had to manage a rental to people that I never met, then it was sold to a cave owner that I had not had good relations with, and I was left renting the basement of a house that I should have been living in as a family member.]

So after he graduated we sold it furniture and all, and he stayed with us until he went to Terre Haute to grad school. [Part of the time I stayed in a cabin with no bathroom.] After that he was on his own. [Until I came back to work on the farmhouse after getting my Masters in early 1976, while I attended grad school at Indiana U., and until I got a teaching job in Greencastle, IN. I tried to leave once, while the fighting was going on. I finally moved to Louisville, then Takoma Park, MD.]
